Scope

This standard specifies the technology for detecting surface defects in ferromagnetic materials (including heat-affected zones) using magnetic particle inspection. Appendix A describes the factors related to basic techniques that can provide higher or lower detection sensitivity.
This standard is applicable to most welding processes and joint structures.
