Scope

This standard specifies the terms, definitions, and symbols for risk assessment of buried steel pipelines, general principles, basic workflow of risk assessment, division of pipeline sections, evaluation of failure probability, evaluation of failure consequences, calculation of risk value, division of risk levels, recommendations for risk reduction measures, and re-evaluation of risks.
This standard applies to long-distance pipelines for transporting crude oil, refined oil, corrosive liquids, and natural gas; gathering pipelines; public pipelines for transporting natural gas, artificial coal gas, and liquefied petroleum gas; and buried steel pipelines in industrial pipelines for transporting corrosive liquids, used for risk assessment of their buried sections, crossing sections, and exposed sections at four stages: feasibility demonstration stage, design review stage, completion and acceptance stage, and in-service stage.
This standard does not apply to risk assessment of non-steel long-distance pipelines, gathering pipelines, public pipelines, or industrial pipelines for transporting corrosive liquids, nor does it apply to risk assessment of various devices and equipment in stations and yards of long-distance pipelines, gathering pipelines, public pipelines, or industrial pipelines for transporting corrosive liquids.
