Scope

This standard applies to various vacuum pumps, vacuum units, and vacuum extraction systems. The standard lists the important hazards associated with vacuum pumps during their use and subsequent disposal, and specifies in detail the safety requirements applicable to the design, installation, operation, maintenance, and disassembly of vacuum pumps.
This standard does not apply to pumps that continuously extract gas under open systems and those with an inlet pressure higher than 75kPa (750mbar), such as vacuum cleaners and ventilation fans.
Some vacuum pumps used in special situations should comply with the special standards related to their applications.
