Scope

This standard specifies the test methods for exposing plastics to solar radiation, including natural daylight climate exposure (Method A), indirect exposure to simulate the aging of plastics behind building or car window glass by changing the spectral distribution through glass filters (Method B), or accelerated sunlight aging exposure using Fresnel lenses (Method C), with the aim of evaluating the performance changes of plastics after these specified exposure periods.
This standard specifies the general requirements for the devices and operating methods used in the above-mentioned tests. Although this standard does not include direct aging using black box testing equipment, attention should be paid to the exposure test methods simulating the final use temperature of the materials.
The Method C device used to enhance solar radiation can provide moisture in the form of water spray, but Methods B and C do not consider climate factors such as wind and rain.
When comparing the exposure results obtained by Method C with those obtained by Methods A and B, it is appropriate to consider the differences in sample temperature, UV radiation levels, and moisture condensation. In addition, when comparing the exposure results of Method C with those of Method B, the glass or other transparent materials used as filters should be the same. The exposure tests corresponding to the compared exposure results should have relatively consistent UV radiation levels.
This standard also specifies methods for measuring radiation quantities. These methods are suitable for various plastic materials and products, as well as parts of products.
