Scope

This document specifies the general requirements for the construction, design, and environmental conditions of communication, automation, and intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) and systems in power plants and substations. These general requirements are consistent with the requirements of IEDs operating under similar conditions, such as measurement relays and protection devices.
When communication or automation IEDs are part of another device in a power plant or substation, the environmental requirements of that device apply to the communication equipment.
