Scope

This document defines the terms and definitions of portable on-board child restraint devices, stipulates the installation and fixation requirements on civil transport aircraft, the structure of restraint systems, the performance indicators of restraint system assemblies and their components, as well as product description and marking requirements. It describes the test methods for combustion tests, chemical tests, adaptability tests, dynamic tests, and rollover tests. This document applies to the design, production, inspection, testing, product certification, service provision, and trade cooperation of portable on-board child restraint devices that passengers bring onto civil transport aircraft and fix in forward-facing passenger seats using only lap restraints. Note: The portable on-board child restraint devices defined in this document do not include child restraint devices that require special installation on passenger seats, or that need to be supported on passenger seats by external structures or accessories, or that require special webbing for installation on passenger seats; nor do they include child restraint devices with special requirements or medical-type child restraint devices.
