Scope

This document describes the test method for evaluating the environmental stress cracking (ESC) resistance of thermoplastic plastics under fixed bending strain in chemical media. This document is suitable for determining the ESC resistance of panels and flat specimens, especially for specimens sensitive to ESC in local surface areas. It is also used to determine the ESC resistance caused by gases, liquids, and solids containing migrating substances (such as polymer adhesives and materials containing plasticizers) in contact with specific polymers, as well as to evaluate the ESC resistance of rigid plastics that only exhibit moderate stress relaxation during the test period.
