Scope

This document specifies a general method for contact-type pulsed reflection ultrasonic surface wave detection to detect surface defects in metal materials.
This document is applicable to workpieces with a surface roughness Ra not exceeding 6.3 μm and a thickness not less than 5 times the wavelength of the surface wave used for detection. For curved workpieces such as cylinders, the radius of curvature should be not less than 22.5 mm.
Note: The wavelength of the surface wave used for detection is calculated based on the theoretical surface wave speed of the workpiece divided by the nominal frequency of the surface wave probe used for detection.
