Scope

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification and marking, order content, dimensions, shape and allowable deviations, technical requirements, inspection items, requirements and methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking, and quality certificates for the manufacture of cold-drawn carbon spring steel wire.
This standard applies to the manufacture of circular cold-drawn carbon spring steel wire (hereinafter referred to as steel wire) for mechanical springs used in static and dynamic load applications, but it does not apply to the manufacture of steel wire for high-fatigue-strength springs (such as valve springs).
