Scope

This document specifies the classification and marking of cold-drawn carbon spring steel wires for manufacturing, order contents, dimensional and form requirements, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, transportation, storage, marking, and quality certificates. This document is applicable to cold-drawn carbon spring steel wires (hereinafter referred to as steel wires) with a circular cross-section used for manufacturing mechanical springs for static and dynamic loads. The standard tensile strength of non-circular (such as square) spring steel wires can be adopted according to the corresponding specifications of the cross-sectional area equivalent to this document. This document is not applicable to the manufacture of steel wires for high fatigue strength springs (such as valve springs).
