Scope

This section applies to inductive and capacitive proximity switches that can detect the presence or absence of metal and/or non-metallic objects, ultrasonic proximity switches that can detect the presence or absence of objects that reflect sound, photoelectric proximity switches that can detect the presence or absence of objects, and non-mechanical magnetic proximity switches that can detect the presence or absence of magnetic objects. The aforementioned proximity switches should be fully enclosed and equipped with semiconductor switching elements that can be used to connect to circuits with a rated voltage of AC no more than 250 V (50 Hz or 60 Hz) or DC no more than 300 V. This section does not apply to proximity switches with analog output. This section aims to explain the following aspects of proximity switches: — Definition; — Classification; — Characteristics; — Product information; — Normal use, installation, and transportation conditions; — Structural and performance requirements; — Verification tests of rated characteristics.
