GB/T 38803-2020 Specification for failure analysis of steel wire ropes
Basic Information
Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, general principles, and personnel competency requirements for failure analysis of steel wire ropes, as well as general procedures, analysis methods, analysis reports, and the preservation of residual samples.
This standard applies to the failure analysis of steel wire ropes for various purposes. The failure analysis of steel wires and steel wire rope products can be used as a reference.
Note: This standard provides guidance for analyzing the failure of steel wire ropes due to manufacturing defects, damage during loading, storage, or installation, or due to factors such as wire breakage, strand breakage, fracture, corrosion, or overload. Under normal circumstances, since the failed steel wire ropes have already been subjected to complex stresses such as load, bending, extrusion, and rotation, the appearance, dimensions, mechanical properties, and process performance of the steel wire ropes and the steel wires within them have changed. Therefore, the test results of their appearance, dimensions, mechanical properties, and process performance should not be used as a basis for determining whether the steel wire ropes are qualified upon leaving the factory.
