Scope

This document specifies the requirements for lightning strike counters and describes the corresponding test methods. Lightning strike counters record the number of lightning strikes based on the lightning current flowing through conductors. Such conductors are only used to conduct part of the lightning current, including certain conductors of the lightning protection system (LPS), conductors connected to surge protectors (SPDs), or other conductors.
For LSCs used in hazardous environments, necessary additional requirements must be considered.
Note: In EU countries, the test requirements for components used in explosive environments can be found in CLC/TS 50703-2.
