GB/T 33588.3-2025 Lightning protection system components(LPSC)—Part 3:Requirements for isolating spark gaps(ISGs)
Basic Information
Scope
This document specifies the requirements for isolation discharge gaps (ISGs) in lightning protection systems and describes the corresponding test methods.
Certain metal facilities, due to their functional requirements, are not allowed to be directly connected to the lightning protection system in the same potential. Therefore, ISGs can be used to establish an indirect equal-potential connection between the lightning protection system and these metal facilities.
Typical applications include connections to the following facilities:
—— The grounding system of power facilities;
—— The grounding system of telecommunications systems;
—— The rail grounding electrodes of AC and DC railway systems;
—— Laboratory measurement grounding electrodes;
—— Devices with cathodic protection and stray current systems;
—— User entry poles of low-voltage overhead cables;
—— Insulated flanges or insulated joints at both ends of pipelines.
This document is not applicable to applications involving inrush current.
ISGs used in hazardous environments must take into account the necessary additional requirements.
Note 1: In EU countries, the test requirements for components used in explosive environments are specified in CLC/TS 50703-2.
Note 2: This document is not applicable to the testing of components in explosive environments [see IEC 6007910 (all parts)].
