GB/T 20674的本部分规定了电热板加热的聚乙烯（PE）管道系统热熔对接设备（简称熔接设备）的术语和定义、分类、要求、电源、试验方法、辅助装置及随机文件、维护、检验规则、标志、包装、运输和贮存。
本部分与GB/T 20674的其他部分一起，适用于燃气/给水用聚乙烯管材和管件用熔接设备，其燃气用管材和管件符合GB/T 15558（所有部分），饮用水及一般压力输水用管材和管件符合 GB/T 13663（所有部分）。
注： 熔接设备用于燃气/给水用部件（例如：阀门、钢塑转换等）的预制装配连接或用于核电管、冷热水用PE-RT管、工业用管、复合管等连接时，由供需双方协商一致。
