GB 3836.4-2010 Explosive atmospheres—Part 4:Equipment protection by intrinsic safety "i"
Basic Information
Scope
This part of GB 3836 specifies the requirements for intrinsically safe equipment used in explosive gas environments and associated equipment connected to intrinsically safe circuits in explosive gas environments, including terms, structures, tests, and markings.
The explosion-proof types specified in this part are applicable to electrical equipment whose circuits themselves will not ignite the surrounding explosive environment.
This part is also applicable to electrical equipment or its components used in non-explosive gas environments or protected by another explosion-proof type listed in GB 3836.1—2010, as long as the intrinsically safe performance of the circuits in the explosive gas environment depends on the design and structure of the electrical equipment or its components. The circuits exposed to explosive gas environments can be evaluated in this part to determine whether they are suitable for such environments.
The requirements for intrinsically safe systems are specified in GB 3836.18. The requirements for the intrinsically safe concept of fieldbuses are specified in GB 3836.19.
This part supplements and modifies the general requirements of GB 3836.1—2010, except for the cases listed in Table 1. When the requirements of this part conflict with those of GB 3836.1—2010, the requirements of this part shall take precedence.
Associated equipment placed in explosive gas environments must be protected by one of the explosion-proof types specified in GB 3836.1—2010. In this case, the explosion-proof type requirements and related parts specified in GB 3836.1—2010 also apply to the associated equipment.
