Scope

This section specifies the determination of carbon content in manganese-silicon alloys, manganese iron, blast furnace manganese iron, nitrided manganese iron, metallic manganese, and electrolytic manganese using infrared absorption, gas volume, weight, and Coulomb methods. This section applies to the determination of carbon content in manganese-silicon alloys, manganese iron, blast furnace manganese iron, nitrided manganese iron, metallic manganese, and electrolytic manganese. Among them, the infrared absorption method is suitable for determining the carbon content of 0.01% to 10.00% (by mass) in manganese-silicon alloys, manganese iron (including blast furnace manganese iron), nitrided manganese iron, metallic manganese, and electrolytic manganese; the gas volume method is suitable for determining the carbon content of 0.40% to 5.00% (by mass) in manganese-silicon alloys and manganese iron (including blast furnace manganese iron); the weight method is suitable for determining the carbon content of 4.00% to 8.00% (by mass) in manganese iron (including blast furnace manganese iron); and the Coulomb method is suitable for determining the carbon content of 0.010% to 0.400% (by mass) in metallic manganese and electrolytic manganese.
