Scope
This standard specifies the definition, test methods, and acceptance criteria for composite insulators used in AC overhead lines (hereinafter referred to as insulators).
This standard applies to composite insulators used in AC lines and substations for suspension and tension applications. However, these insulators may also be subject to compression or bending loads in certain situations, such as when used as phase-separating rod insulators. Insulators consist of an insulating core rod, a bush sleeve, and end fittings. The load-bearing core rod is made of resin-impregnated glass fiber, the bush sleeve is made of polymer material, and the end fittings are permanently installed on the insulating core rod.
