Basic Information
Scope
This document specifies the safety requirements for handheld non-electric power tools used for fastening or installing threaded fasteners (hereinafter referred to as "assembly power tools for threaded fasteners"). Assembly power tools for threaded fasteners can be driven by compressed air, hydraulic oil, or internal combustion engines, and can be used by a single operator with one or two hands, with or without suspension devices (such as balancing devices).
This document applies to the following products:
——Hydraulic pulse air wrenches;
——Impact wrenches;
——Fastener installation tools;
——Nut wrenches;
——Open-end wrenches (open-end claw-type sockets or pipe nut wrenches);
——Ratchet wrenches;
——Screwdrivers.
Note 1: Examples of assembly power tools for threaded fasteners are provided in Appendix B.
This document does not apply to the special requirements and modifications for installing assembly power tools for threaded fasteners on clamping devices.
This document covers all notable hazards, dangerous situations, or dangerous events when using the tools under the intended use and misuse conditions that can be reasonably foreseen by the manufacturer, except for the use of assembly power tools for threaded fasteners in potentially explosive environments.
Note 2: EN 13463-1 provides requirements for the use of non-electric equipment in potentially explosive environments.
