Scope

This document covers internal arc fault control devices (IACDs), with the aim of: - Detecting internal arc faults in low-voltage switchgear and control equipment by (at least) addressing the optical effects of internal arc faults; and - Operating arc suppression devices (external or combined types) to minimize the impact of internal arc faults (see Figure 1). In this document, the term "light" or "optical" encompasses not only the visible spectrum but also, for example, infrared or ultraviolet electromagnetic radiation (see Appendix D). For combined IACDs, this document should be considered in conjunction with the relevant product standards for internal arc fault suppression devices (IARDs meeting the requirements of GB/Z 43533-2023). Compliance with these product standards is mandatory and cannot be declared solely based on the tests described in this document. Note 1: Low-voltage switchgear and control equipment are typically governed by IEC 61439 (all parts).
