Scope

This standard specifies the eddy current testing technology mainly used to detect surface openings and near-surface surface defects in ferromagnetic materials (welds, heat-affected zones, base metals).
If required by design specifications, this standard can also be used for the detection of non-ferromagnetic materials.
This standard is applicable to the detection of exposed or coated welds during onshore and offshore manufacturing, installation, and in-service processes.
The detection can be carried out on all accessible welds of various forms.
Eddy current testing is typically performed in the as-welded condition, but surface rough machining may affect its detection accuracy.
