Scope

This standard specifies the method for determining the flash point and ignition point of petroleum products using the Cleveland open cup instrument. It is applicable to petroleum products with an open cup flash point higher than 79°C, except for fuel oil (which is usually measured according to GB/T 261). Note: The flash point and ignition point indicate the ability of a substance to form a combustible mixture with air and continue to burn under specified conditions. The flash point and ignition point are just two of the many analytical methods used to evaluate the flammability and combustibility of substances.
