Scope

This part of GB 16915 specifies the technical requirements for switches of fixed electrical installations for household and similar use, including their classification, marking, protection against electric shock, structural requirements, mechanical performance, and electrical performance.
This part applies to manually operated general-purpose switches for household and similar fixed electrical installations used indoors or outdoors, operating on AC power with a rated voltage not exceeding 440 V and a rated current not exceeding 63 A.
Switches equipped with non-threaded terminals are limited to a rated current of up to 16 A.
The switches covered by this part are intended for controlling the following circuits under normal use:
——incandescent lamp load circuits;
——fluorescent lamp load circuits (including electronic ballasts);
——substantially resistive load circuits with a power factor of not less than 0.95;
——single-phase circuits for motor loads with a rated current not exceeding 10 A and a power factor of not less than 0.6;
——self-ballast lamp load circuits (such as LEDi or CFLi);
——halogen lamp load circuits;
——combined circuits of the above types.
Note 1: Consideration is being given to extending the scope of application to switches with a rated voltage higher than 440 V.
Note 2: Consideration is being given to adding switches for motor loads with a rated current of 10 A.
Note 3: At present, switches with a rated current greater than 10 A are temporarily regarded as 10 A switches for motor loads.
This part also applies to installation boxes for switches, but not to installation boxes for concealed switches.
Note 4: Requirements for installation boxes for concealed switches are specified in GB 17466.
This part also applies to:
——switches equipped with signal lamps;
——electromagnetic remote control switches (their special requirements are given in Part 2);
