GB/T 3836.3-2021 Explosive atmospheres—Part 3:Equipment protection by increased safety “e”

Scope

This document specifies the design, structure, testing, and marking requirements for electrical equipment and Ex components used in explosive gas environments protected by intrinsically safe type "e".
The protection level of intrinsically safe type "e" electrical equipment and Ex components is:
a) "eb" protection level (EPL "Mb" or "Gb"); or
b) "ec" protection level (EPL "Gc").
The "eb" protection level applies to equipment or Ex components, including their connectors, conductors, windings, lamps, and batteries, but not to semiconductors or electrolytic capacitors.
Note 1: The "eb" protection level does not apply to electronic components such as semiconductors or electrolytic capacitors, because if internal isolation distances are not used, expected failures can lead to excessive temperatures or the generation of arcs and sparks. Maintaining internal isolation distances and the functionality of electronic components is usually not feasible.
The "ec" protection level applies to equipment or Ex components, including their connectors, conductors, windings, lamps, and batteries, as well as semiconductors and electrolytic capacitors.
Note 2: The "ec" protection level allows the use of electronic components such as semiconductors or electrolytic capacitors, because under normal conditions and expected frequent usage, these components are unlikely to cause excessive temperatures or the generation of arcs and sparks. Since the requirement for isolation distances does not apply to internal structures, ordinary electronic components can generally be used if the external isolation distances meet the requirements.
Unless otherwise specified, the requirements of this document apply to both protection levels.
For the "eb" protection level, this document applies to electrical equipment with a rated voltage not exceeding 11 kV (AC RMS or DC).
