Scope

This part of "Explosive Environments" specifies the requirements for the design, structure, assessment, testing, and marking of rooms used to protect internal equipment in the following locations:
—— Rooms located in explosive environments of Zone 1 or Zone 2, or Zone 21 or Zone 22 (areas typically requiring EPL Gb, Gc, Db, or Dc), which do not contain gas/vapor release sources and are protected by positive pressure;
—— Rooms located in explosive environments of Zone 2 (areas typically requiring EPL Gc), which do not contain gas/vapor release sources and are protected by artificial ventilation;
—— Rooms located in non-hazardous areas that contain gas/vapor release sources and are protected by artificial ventilation;
—— Rooms located in explosive environments of Zone 1 or Zone 2, or Zone 21 or Zone 22 (areas typically requiring EPL Gb, Gc, Db, or Dc), which contain gas/vapor release sources and are protected by both positive pressure and artificial ventilation.
In this part, rooms include independent rooms, multiple rooms, a complete building, or rooms within a building. Rooms are equipped with passageways for personnel entry and exit, and pipelines for gas inlet and outlet. Soundproof enclosures and other similar housings designed to allow personnel entry are also considered rooms. This part also specifies the requirements for related safety devices and controls necessary to ensure the implementation and maintenance of artificial ventilation, air exchange, and positive pressure.
Rooms assembled or constructed on-site can be located on land or at sea. Such rooms are primarily installed by end users, but they can also be manufactured and evaluated in a manufacturer's factory, with final piping connections completed on-site.
Rooms can be located in explosive gas environments requiring equipment protection level (EPL) Gb or Gc, or in combustible dust environments requiring EPL Db or Dc.
This part does not specify methods t
