Scope

This part of the "Explosive Environments" standard specifies the specific requirements for the design, selection, and installation of electrical equipment in hazardous areas related to explosive environments.
When equipment needs to meet other environmental conditions, such as waterproofing or corrosion resistance, other protection methods must be used. The protection methods employed should not adversely affect the integrity of the enclosure.
The requirements of this part apply only to equipment used under normal or near-normal atmospheric conditions. For other conditions, additional precautions may be necessary. For example, most combustible materials and many materials typically considered non-combustible may burn vigorously under oxygen-rich conditions. Equipment used under extreme temperatures and pressures may also require additional precautions. These precautions are not covered in this part.
These requirements supplement the installation requirements for electrical equipment in non-hazardous areas.
This part applies to all electrical equipment, including fixed, portable, mobile, and personal devices, whether permanently installed or temporarily used.
This part applies to devices of all voltage levels.
